Office of Development Design
The worlds of today – the physical world and the virtual world, have been moving toward each other for some time, but now this convergence seems to have pushed each world past the point of overlap. The real world seems to be getting more strange and artificial – snapshots often are accused of being doctored and home videos on YouTube called fakes. Meanwhile the virtual world is looking more natural and authentic all the time, textured with filmgrain and composited with lensflares. From wars conducted by unmanned drones, to multi player video games, and GPS navigation, there is an increasing reliance on digitally created worlds overlaid with the physical world.
ODD lives in this zone of overlap, seeking to map this new terrain and posit new visual experiences. Taking design out of the computer and projecting or installing it into space on the one hand. And on the other hand – dissecting, measuring, and mapping the world back into the computer. ODD creates a means of navigating this new zone and in the process creatively expressing its multifaceted narratives.
Co-founder Saffron Case formerly of AVSO and Offspring in collaboration with Creative Director Gary Breslin of Panoptic, are pleased to announce the launch of their newest venture, ODD. The newly formed venture is more than a design and animation company. It’s a think tank, a space for experimentation, exploration, and development. A lab for creativity that need not live only inside a digital space.
